Bokashi

One kg

What it is & How it works

  • Fermentation:Uses effective microorganisms (EM) and a carbon source (like bran) to ferment organic matter, preserving nutrients better than traditional composting.
  • Soil Health:Reintroduces microbes to the soil, improving its physical, chemical, and biological properties, making nutrients more available.
  • Quick Preparation:Ready in weeks, not months, providing faster nutrient cycling.

Key Ingredients

  • Manure (cow, chicken, etc.)
  • Agricultural wastes (rice hulls, bran)
  • Forest soil
  • Fermentation starter (like molasses, EM solution, or IMO)

How to Use

  • Solid Bokashi:Bury it in trenches around trees or mix it into planting holes before planting to slowly release nutrients.

Benefits

  • Improves soil structure, water retention, and nutrient content (P, K).
  • Enhances plant growth, seed germination, and yield.
  • Can reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers.

Description

Bokashi is a Japanese fermentation process that turns organic waste (kitchen scraps, manure, agricultural by products) into a nutrient-rich soil amendment, acting as both a fertilizer and soil inoculant by introducing beneficial microbes, improving soil structure, and increasing water retention for healthier, more abundant plant growth. Unlike traditional compost, it ferments anaerobically (without oxygen) and can be prepared quickly (around 2-3 weeks), producing both a solid fermented material and a potent liquid fertilizer that needs dilution before use.
